Potential New Casino For Sunshine Coast
A local news outlet in Queensland called the Sunshine Coast Daily has reported that a Cambodian casino group called NagaCorp have been looking around the Sunshine Coast for a new casino and resort project.
They are not just looking for potential projects but are in fact planning to be part of a recently started Maroochydore CBD development project. This immense undertaking will be looking at redeveloping about 53 hectares of real estate into office spaces, retail stores, a new town hall and more.
Naturally one of the planned elements to this reinvigoration of the local area is a casino resort. This would generate great revenue for the town after sinking millions of dollars into the project already. Naturally the project should also provide a boom to the local communities through increased economic activity in the area.
It was only announced last year, after the project had already gotten underway, that a casino resort would eventually form part of the land development. Mayor Mark Jamieson said that the casino resort could provide great employment opportunities for local residents. There has recently been a large push for tourism in Australia and this development is no exception.
Many Potential Developers Interested
The Sunshine Coast Council appointed SunCentral to carry out the project management aspect of the new development. CEO John Knaggs said that other local and international companies have also started looking at development opportunities in the Maroochydore project.
NagaCorp was just one of the latest companies spotted in the region. NagaCorp owner Chen Lip Keong, his architect Paul Steelman and the Chairman Timothy McNally were all in Maroochydore so it is safe to assume that the company is taking a serious look at developing a resort here.
NagaCorp certainly are no slouches when it comes to casino gaming. In Cambodia the company has held a 41 year monopoly on all casino gaming in a 200km radius of the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. If NagaCorp is interested in a project in the Maroochydore CBD they will have to act soon as the first buildings are to be started in 2018.
NagaCorp have a monopoly on gambling in Cambodia until 2035 so the company may be seeking to diversify their assets. An investment in the Sunshine Coast is sure to pay off greatly since the region is already a popular tourist destination. A brand new CBD with a world class casino and resort attached is a winning combination for any community.
