BetVictor has recently added an extra layer of security authentication to all of their accounts, which has been done in response to a number of data breaches that have affected other major firms.
The company has since added Two-Factor Authentication for all new and existing customer accounts, and that customers will be required to provide a special code that will be sent out via SMS to the customer’s phone number. This new level of security means that an account cannot be accessed even of passwords have been bypassed.
The new security comes just a few months after the operator was accused of leaving a list of passwords for its internal systems on its website, which was part of an investigation lead by security expert Christ Hogben. The company quickly rectified the issue, according to Hogben, but it shed light on the light security that many firms use for accounts that are susceptible to cyber-criminal activity.
BetVictor has stated that their new authentication system will safeguard against the chance of account hacking, and has reduced the risk of customers becoming victims to identity theft or fraud.
The operator, which has customers across 150 different countries, has explained that a major reason for the new authentication security comes after a series of cyber attacks, such as the Verizon Data Breach, which showed that 81% of all hacking-related breaches are a result of weak or stolen passwords. Since then, the move to increase online security has become a major topic in a number of industries.
