Tristan Sjoberg has announced his resignation from his position as part of the Betsson board of directors after he become embroiled in a tax dispute. The news has been confirmed publicly by the operator not long after rumours began to spread through the industry.
Betsson, in a short statement to news outlets, explained that Sjoberg’s tax dispute is between him and the Swedish tax authorities, and is in regards to tax liability. The operator also confirmed that Sjoberg resigned from the company at his own request, and that the tax dispute had nothing to do with the operator directly.
Sjoberg is also currently serving as executive director of gaming equipment company TCS John Huxley. Along with that, he co-owns and directs the investment firm Knuttson Holdings, and is on the board at farming group Barramundi Asia Pte.
His departure from Betsson comes as the operator awaits confirmation from Sweden’s igaming regulator as to whether their application process has been accepted. Sweden’s gaming and betting market has recently opened up to operators following a series of re-regulations. The market is expected to open on the first of January next year, and has stated that licences could start being handed out as early as next month.
Betsson, who were part of the first 22 operators that applied on the first day of the newly opened applications, has been preparing to launch within the Swedish market, despite having lost chief financial officer Kaaren Hilsen just a month ago.
